UNITE HERE Local 5 has filed three new unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board against the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel in Honolulu, alleging that it illegally retaliated against three workers who were trying to form a union.

 The union had settled eight previous charges with the hotel’s owner, Aston Hotels & Resorts, in April. The company, Local 5 said in a statement, agreed to post notices stating that it would not “interrogate you about your union membership, activities, and sympathies” or “threaten you with adverse job consequences” for engaging in union activities. But since then, Local 5 alleges, two union supporters have been disciplined, and maintenance engineer Edmund Legaspi, a leader in the unionization campaign, was fired on June 30. Read more here
