Washington, DC – U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman is challenging China over export duties on raw materials crucial to the automobile, aerospace and other U.S. industries, saying they give Chinese manufacturers an unfair advantage.
While China says the duties are part of an environmental protection effort, Froman says they violate World Trade Organization rules. United Steelworkers president Leo Gerard released a statement praising Froman’s action, saying China’s history of these unfair trade policies has corroded America’s manufacturing base.
