The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU, UFCW), which represents 100,000 U.S. and Canadian workers in retail, food processing, and other fast-growing industries, has announced it is endorsing President Barack Obama for re-election. “President Obama has done more for working people than any President in recent memory,” said Stuart Appelbaum, president of the RWDSU. “When you examine his biggest victories—economic stimulus, healthcare reform, auto industry recovery, financial reform, pay equity reform, middle class tax relief, restoration of collective bargaining rights—it is clear that he has delivered on his central promises of hope and change".

“President Obama saved the auto industry and brought it back to life here in Michigan,” said Jack Wurm, Secretary-Treasurer of the RWDSU. “He has improved the lives of countless Michigan workers, and we will never forget that. President Obama is our Negotiator in Chief, and we will proudly help re-elect him to a second term in 2012. At the bargaining table and on the shop floor, he has truly empowered all of us.”
