New York, NY – “The Encounter” is the first Broadway show to open for the Fall 2016 season. The show is a two hour no intermission experience. “The Encounter” is a one man show detailing the experiences of a National Geographic photographer Loren McIntyre, in the rain forest of the Amazon who followed the tribesmen of the Mayoruna people.
The show was inspired by a book “Amazon Beaming” written by Petro Popescu published in 1981. The star of this one man show is Simin McBurney who along with Kirsty Housley and was produced and directed by Mr. Mcburney.
The uniqueness of the show is that every seat is outfitted with headphones which transforms the theater goers experience to the sounds of the Amazon rain forest. the voice of Mr. McBurney resonates over the sound of monkeys, birds, mosquitoes and a propeller driven plane. After a while sitting with stereophonic sound for two hours is certainly not for all theater goers. Even though the attempt to transport to you to the Amazon rain forest is tantalizing and an interesting experience the play is not for everyone’s taste particularly at the prices that Broadway productions demand.
