A teachers strike that began Oct. 28 in a small city outside Pittsburgh will continue at least through Thanksgiving. The 285 teachers in Peters Township have been working without a contract since Aug 31,
A negotiating session of more than three hours on Nov. 9 “went nowhere,” said Paul Homer, staff representative for the American Federation of Teachers in Pennsylvania. “Nothing happened and there are no future meetings scheduled.” The district said it will drop demands that teachers work a longer school year, but Homer said “we have nothing tentatively agreed to because the school district refused to initial anything.” The district also did not agree to give teachers and students days off on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve, he added.
