On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, with a warm welcome from the community and public officials such as Deputy Bronx Borough President Aurelia Greene, the Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) re-opened its doors in the Bronx after more than five years. The Bronx Extension Center, located at 529 Courtlandt Avenue, will offer students living in surrounding areas a convenient campus where they can attend classes.
The past success at the Manhattan campus paved the road to the re-opening of this location. Here at the Bronx Extension Center, students will be given an opportunity to pursue their associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees in an array of concentrations from Human Services, Business Administration, Healthcare Systems Management, to Public Administration. Coupled with experienced and knowledgeable faculty, students will be offered a rewarding experience at the school that will open opportunities beyond education.
Being in the heart of the South Bronx, the Bronx Extension Center is strategically located in a community that is in need of an infusion of resources. Vinton Thompson, President of MCNY, says that the college will work with the numerous social service agencies surrounding the college regarding internships, employment, and other areas. The goal is for an enhanced student experience that will prepare them for the future, while the school gets the opportunity to further invest in the community.
MCNY will continue its dedication to nurturing its students with empowerment tools and skills necessary for their entrance into the workforce. They hope to grow and open additional campus locations throughout New York City to accommodate more students in need of MCNY’s academic programs. With an excellent track record, and caring staff and faculty, that future may just be right around the corner.
