In a January 25 release, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg named $3.4 billion as the figure for “direct relief” targeted to New York City by the federal government over the next two years.
The Mayor’s release named Senator Chuck Schumer, Congressman Charlie Rangel, and the rest of the NYC Congressional delegation as the driving force being the stimulus package. The Mayor added that the stimulus money won’t wipe away the City’s budget ills, “but while this package won’t solve all New York City’s budget problems, it certainly will help a lot.”
