Each year members of Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW  collect and donate thousands of new toys for the John Theissen Children’s Foundation in Wantagh, a non-profit organization that supports sick and needy children on Long Island. This Christmas of 2011 was no exception.

Over the past 14 years, Local 338 has collected more than 30,000 toys for the Wantagh-based foundation as part of its annual holiday toy drive.

“Working with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation is one of the highlights every year for our union,” said John Durso, president of  Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW. “Every child needs something to smile about during the holiday season and we believe that by helping needy children we can make lives easier for struggling families," continued President Durso.

Local 338 represents more than 18,000 workers in supermarkets, grocery stores, specialty food stores, retail drug stores, pharmacists, wholesale dairies, drivers, maintenance and healthcare through New York City, Westchester and Long Island.
