Washington, DC – Immigrant families remain on a path to justice. This ruling – issued by a lone, out-of-touch judge, singularly sought out by extremist Republican governors and attorney generals – is a temporary disappointment, but in no way a permanent setback.

This judge and his right-wing backers can't bend the law to their personal will. They stand on the wrong side of history and justice. The law is on the side of the president, who has broad authority to determine immigration enforcement policy.

Today, tomorrow and the days to come, families everywhere will continue to prepare themselves to apply for the deferred action initiatives and celebrate the opportunity to work legally and remain with their families.

We urge those who are eligible for DACA or DAPA to keep doing what you are doing to prepare to enroll. Continue to compile the information and documents you will need.

Don't fear. America is with us.

The majority of the American public supports the immigration action. They support families who call America their home, who are willing to make our economy stronger, who are our friends and neighbors…who are a part of the greater American family.

Immigrant families are not the enemy. We are confident that justice will prevail as this case moves through the court system and that the relief granted by the president will take effect to the benefit of millions of families."

*** Following U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen's ruling against President Obama's immigration action, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Executive Vice President, Rocio Saenz, issued this response.
