United Mine Workers of America President Cecil Roberts says a measure of justice has been served with the conviction of former Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship.
Blankenship was convicted of conspiracy to violate mine safety laws in the Upper Big Branch mining disaster that killed 29 miners in 2010. RobertsRoberts says Blankenship's conviction sends a message to every coal operator in America willing to skirt safety laws – that they do so at their own personal risk.
Jessica Martinez, Executive Director of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, says Blankenship repeatedly violated mine safety laws. She said the Upper Big Branch tragedy was preventable. To hear the audio click the following link http://www.laborradio.org
