New York, NY – ”AFSCME applauds the Obama administration's Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order and fully supports the regulations required to implement it.
Requiring companies seeking to obtain federal contracts to disclose prior wage, civil rights and safety violations is a win-win for taxpayers and workers who too often are denied the wages they are owed and are injured or even killed on the job. Taxpayers deserve to know that the federal government is putting in place mechanisms that improve contract performance and fairness.
"These new regulations promote much-needed transparency and help ensure that employees, including thousands of hardworking AFSCME members who deliver vital public services, receive the protection against wage theft, discrimination and workplace hazards they deserve. AFSCME opposes the ongoing efforts of right-wing members of Congress to block these much-needed common sense regulations. Companies who play by the rules and comply with the law have nothing to fear from these regulations. Indeed, they should stand with us as we build an economy that is fair for all. These regulations are both smart and the right thing to do."
