The Chicago Teachers Union is voting on whether or not to authorize a strike.
A group of clergy members monitored the count. The voting will continue for a couple of days. As many as five thousand teachers could be laid off in the New Year. With that threat hanging over them and with lingering issues still simmering, the teachers are also negotiating a new labor contract.
