Niagara County, NY – It was a great stretch over the past several days for the Niagara-Orleans AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, with what’s believed to be a record-setting annual Labor’s Night at the Races fundraiser at Ransomville Speedway to benefit the Greater Niagara United Way – and the celebration of the 34th annual Harry S. Jordan Scholarship Reception that was held last week at the Como Restaurant in Niagara Falls.
Held on Friday, June 9th, the Niagara-Orleans Labor Council’s 2017 Labor’s Night at the Races event – which broke its fundraising record for the third straight year in 2016 – drew what Council President Jim Briggs and United Way Labor Liaison Bill Jakobi told WNYLaborToday.com was the largest number of Union Members and supporters the event has ever had.
“What a ‘turnout,’” Briggs (pictured below on the left with United Way of Greater Niagara CEO Connie Brown and 145th District New York State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello – on the right) told Your On-Line Labor Newspaper. “I saw ‘so many new faces from so many’ Unions. ‘I’ve never seen food lines like the one we just had.’ ‘I’m extremely happy with the turnout.’”
