We all know that physical activity is good for our head, our hearts and our love handles but more than 60% of us don’t do it enough. So how much is enough? Well, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention it is: 1) Engaging in moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes on five or more days each week; or 2) Engaging in vigorous-intensity physical activity for at least 20 minutes on three or more days each week.

Employees at two sites of Preschool of America voted to join District Council 1707 more than a year after the owners of the pricey day care center fired 13 employees after a previous National Labor Relation Board supervised election. At the West End Avenue Center on 64th Street at on the upper west side of Manhattan, the union won 10-1. At the upper east side location on Lexington and 96th ‘Street, the union won 6-1. The election was for the head teachers at both centers. The union previously won the election for the assistant teachers more than a year ago.

October 21, 2011—The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement has entered its first month of protest and CWA members have worked for Verizon without a contract since going back to work on August 22. In another instance of a growing collaboration of OWS and the city’s labor movement, both joined forces today in the “March Against Verizon Corporate Greed” event to protest against economic injustices.
